Getting Lip’s Chip Registered! | Winslow Animal Hospital Dog & Cat

Our Facilitator, Kathleen, just got a new addition to her family! He is a gorgeous Coonhound by the name of Lip. When Lip was adopted, he already had a microchip. All Kathleen had to do was re-register that microchip.

You can learn more about microchips here!

Many Pet-Parents have misconceptions about microchips. Each microchip comes with a unique identifying number that can be read by a scanner. Scanners are kept at most veterinary offices and hospitals, animal shelters, etc. so that a found pet’s microchip can be read. That number then is associated with an account with the company that sold the microchip. When a pet’s microchip is read and the ID number found, the shelter or vet who has the pet can then use that information to get in contact with the owners who lost their pet.

This is why it is so important to register your pet’s microchip – the microchip does not store personal information, only an ID number that can be associated with an account! Once you have registered your pet’s microchip, you can have the peace of mind that your pet can be reunited with your family if they are lost, like Mia was (click here)!
