Buddy got sutures removed this week! This cute dog has had experience with a number of Winslow Animal Hospital Services, including dental care and getting a microchip to protect Buddy from being lost. Buddy was recently neutered at Winslow Animal Hospital as well.
Dental care is important because 80% of pets over the age of four have some form of periodontal or dental disease. Bad breath is NOT normal! The bacteria that grow in a mouth with disease can spread to other parts of the body and be hazardous to the health of the dog or cat.
Microchips protect your pet by providing a form of identification that can’t be accidentally removed the way a collar can. If your dog or cat gets lost without a collar or the collar is removed, your pet’s chip will contain contact information to reunite them with you when they are taken to a veterinarian or animal shelter.
The number of homeless animals varies by state. In some states there are as many as 300,000 homeless animals euthanized in animal shelters every year. These are not only the offspring of homeless “street” animals—these are the puppies and kittens of cherished family pets and even purebreds. Spaying or neutering your pet will help to reduce the number of pets euthanized in shelters or suffering in the streets, as well as provide health benefits to your cherished pet. Those benefits include:
- Your spayed female won’t go into heat.
- Your male dog won’t want to roam away from home.
- Your neutered male will be much better behaved.
