Aquatic Therapy at Winslow Animal Hospital
Our aquatic therapy at Winslow Animal Hospital is done in an underwater treadmill. By filling the treadmill to the patient’s shoulders, we are able to float 60% of their body weight off the affected joints. The resistance of the water challenges muscles while reducing the strain on the joints. Therefor, we are able to build muscle mass and strength more efficiently than walking on the ground. For this reason, aquatic therapy is very useful for dogs recovering from orthopedic and neurologic surgery or injuries. It is also very beneficial for older pets suffering from arthritis, as well as overall conditioning and weight loss.
