Please help us, your opinion counts and we need it now.
The Roosevelt light rail station opens in October 2021. To prevent the neighborhood from becoming a light rail station park & ride, the city is proposing changes to the parking. If the plan goes through as proposed it is likely you, our clients, will be forced to walk several blocks to access our hospital. This is unacceptable to us and we hope unacceptable to you.
While the plan maintains the three spots in front of our hospital, the next closest locations will no longer be just around the corner. The current proposal is to make all parking within half a mile of the light rail station a Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ) which means permits are required. The city is presuming that RPZ parking would be open during the day; however, COVID and work from home has changed things. RPZ would allow local residents & apartment residents to park 24 hours on the street.
Our immediate neighborhood, between 65th and 66th and 12th NE to 15th NE, is now largely apartment buildings and street level businesses. We need a solution that supports the local businesses.
Time Limited Parking, which is what we have now, and/or paid parking creates day time parking for local business. Parking would turn over during the day, prevent ‘Park & Ride’ use and still support the overnight parking for the local apartment buildings. [For reference, paid parking on city streets in the Roosevelt area is currently $0.50 per hour].
Now is the time to make your voice heard. Please let the city know that we want to maintain our current time limited parking and accessibility for businesses.
