What vaccinations does my dog/cat really need?

As your veterinarian, we will discuss with you which vaccinations are appropriate for your dog or cat, based on individual factors, such as lifestyle and health status.

Common diseases for which we recommend vaccination against include rabies, distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus for dogs, and rabies, upper respiratory viruses and panleukopenia (feline distemper) for cats. Additional vaccines, such as feline leukemia virus (FeLV), and Bordetella (kennel cough) for dogs, are recommended based on your cat or dog’s risk.

For dogs, we can often measure immunity levels through blood testing of Titres, before administering vaccinations. This is an accepted step in providing optimum health care for your dog.

For cats, we will recommend testing for Feline Leukaemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) through a simple blood test to ensure they are free of these viral diseases.

Many of these diseases can be fatal to your pet. Preventing them is far easier and less expensive than treatment. If you would like more information on vaccines, please ask us.
